A custom bronze statue is commissioned, not selected — the work starts from your subject, whether that is a named individual, a figure group, an animal, or an original design.

From reference to maquette. For a portrait or memorial we work from photographs — ideally several angles, plus height and build details, and any description of posture or character from people who knew the subject. A small clay or digital maquette is produced first for approval, because proportion and pose are far cheaper to change at that stage than at full size.

Full-size sculpting and casting. The approved maquette is scaled up and sculpted at full size, then moulded and cast in silicon bronze by the lost-wax process. Large figures are cast in sections, weld-assembled, and the seams chased by hand until they are invisible.

Patina and approval. Patina is applied hot by hand — traditional brown, antique green, black, or highlighted. We photograph the piece before patination and again after, and can send samples so the tone is agreed rather than assumed.

How accurate is a portrait from photographs? Very, given good reference. Several angles in even lighting matter more than image quality. Where the subject is living we can work from sittings; where they are not, family input at maquette stage is what gets the likeness right.

Can we see it before it is cast? Yes. We supply photographs and video of the full-size clay for approval before moulding begins — the last point at which changes are straightforward.

Timescale. Figurative commissions typically run three to six months depending on scale and detail, before shipping and installation.
