A metal tree is one of the most demanding pieces we build. It has to read as organic while being welded from thousands of cut components, and its canopy behaves as a large sail in wind — so the engineering matters as much as the sculpting.

Trunk, branch and canopy
The trunk is formed from rolled sections or built up from welded plate with the bark texture worked in. Branches taper through diminishing tube or rolled sheet, welded and ground so the transitions flow. Leaves are cut individually and attached in layers — a full canopy can run to several thousand pieces, which is what drives the cost and lead time.

Wind loading
A dense canopy catches enormous force. We either open the canopy so wind passes through, or engineer the trunk core, root plate and foundation to take the full load. This is calculated, not estimated, and issued as stamped drawings with the bolt pattern.

Finishes
Mirror or brushed stainless for a contemporary reading, Corten for a naturally weathered trunk, PVD gold and copper for foliage, and painted finishes for seasonal or botanical colour. Mixed finishes — dark trunk, bright leaves — are common and very effective.
