Custom Sculpture for Architecture, Public Art & Landscape

Plated sculpture uses PVD — physical vapour deposition — to bond a coloured metallic layer to stainless steel in a vacuum chamber. Unlike paint or gold leaf, the colour is part of the surface: it will not peel, and it holds its tone outdoors for years rather than seasons.

Available tones
Gold, champagne and rose gold, bronze and copper, gunmetal, black and blue. Each can be applied over a mirror-polished base for a reflective finish or over a brushed base for a softer, satin metallic. The base preparation matters more than the plating itself — PVD is a thin layer and will show any scratch or weld mark underneath, so polishing is completed to a mirror standard first.

Honest limits
PVD is hard and corrosion-resistant but not indestructible. Deep scratches cannot be polished out locally — the panel has to be stripped and re-plated. In heavy-touch positions we usually recommend brushed-base plating, which disguises handling far better than mirror. Chamber size also caps the largest single plated section, so very large works are plated in panels and assembled after.
